Five and Dime

It's no doubt one of the prettiest cafe along River Valley Road. At some point, it was the hottest talk in town so I just had to check it out. The place is pretty small so be sure to make a reservation before heading down, especially for weekend brunch.

The usual skinny latte and mocha.

Coffee was served with old school biscuits, my favourite!

Eggs Benny ($16.00) is one of the hot items here. What's not to love about poached eggs on brioche toast! From what I know, it used to be seared beef instead of ham. Not sure if it's for the better or worst. I love the fruits salad on the side. It was mixed with some kind of citrus dressing which is very refreshing. However, I felt that the slice of toast was way too small for 2 poached eggs to go with.

Another popular dish is the Corn Beef Hash ($16.00). Below the perfectly cooked eggs is the yummy corn hash. Absolutely delish!

The desserts looked very good but we were too full to have any. Will definitely leave some space for desserts the next time round!

High-tea at Fosters

It was a late Saturday afternoon and high-tea just sounded perfect! Something different for a change.

Fosters is a lovely small cafe along Holland Village which offers reasonably priced high-tea sets from 3pm - 6pm daily. Reservations are recommended otherwise you might be given the outdoor seats instead.

Menu was presently nicely in a newspaper style.

We ordered 2 sets of Devonshire High-tea set ($11.00 each). Each set comes with 2 scones, fruit cake, sandwiches and a choice of tea or coffee.

The scones were lovely. Warm and crusty on the outside, buttery moist and filled with raisins on the inside! Not a fan of fruit cake but I must say, anything that's toasted sure is good! Sandwiches are not worth mentioning, practically you can just skip that out.

So if you are looking for a cozy place with reasonable high-tea set, Fosters is definitely the place to go! I'll find another lazy afternoon to be back here with a good read and probably just one set to share! :)

Casa Verde

Took a short break to Korea and now I'm back to continue with the brunch adventure!

Settled for brunch at Casa Verde which is located right at the visitor centre of Botanical Gardens. It was very packed for a Sunday afternoon. Love the casual dining concept, simply grab a table, order at the counter and wait to be served. This place is perfect for a Sunday afternoon of catching up with friends and to chill around. Also, it's pets friendly!

Their breakfast menu ends at 11am however, they still have an option left. Whole Day Gourmet Breakfast ($15.50) that comes with your choice of eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, hash brown, cherry tomatoes and toast. This was simply the ultimate breakfast and it's a pretty good deal for the price!

You know how I love my scrambled eggs to be creamy and this was just that! The only thing I didn't like on that place was probably the sausage, it was a tad too dry inside.

B went with his usual Fish and Chips ($15.00). Decent enough I'd say!

It's nice to spend the afternoon away from the busy streets. You can also take the opportunity to explore the Botanical Gardens or even just a short walk around.

Selfish Gene Cafe

Happy Easter Sunday!

Today's brunch place is at Selfish Gene Cafe. Have been hearing quite a bit about this place and their banana cake so decided to drop by for a quick brunch.

It's just doors away from The Plain so it was quite easy to find. Surprise to find the cafe pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon.

Breakfast plate ($15.80)

This was seriously good. Love the sautéed mushrooms, creamy scrambled eggs and of course, the lightly toasted brioche bread. Polished the plate clean!

Ordered the signature Homemade Banana Cake ($5.80). Drizzled with peanut butter and crumbs, it was simply delightful! The peanut butter added a nice touch to the warm and moist banana cake! Highly recommended!!

Cafe Latte ($4.80)

And of course, with every brunch, there is definitely my caffeine fix.

Antoinette

It's great when it comes to Public Holiday. Not only it is a day of rest, there's also a reason to have brunch. However, do note that some places do close on Public Holidays or are very packed. Do call in advance to check!

Was in the mood for pancake so decided to settle for Antoinette at Penhas Road today. Truth to be told, it was my first visit there.

Walked in to a very lovely victorian style cafe. Somehow all the tables are reserved and we were given a lower table thats more suited for cakes and tea, not for food. However, shortly after the food arrived, we are given the proper dining table at a corner.

Pancakes with Smoked Salmon ($15.00)

The pancakes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was lovely. The sour cream that was given didn't go very well with the pancakes so I had to ask for maple syrup. Then, it was perfect!

Antoinette Breakfast ($20.00)

The breakfast set came with the above, assorted pastries and a choice of orange juice or coffee. The scrambled eggs and sausage was very good!

How can anyone visit Antoinette and not try their cakes? No matter how full you are, there's always space when it comes to desserts!

Strawberry Shortcake ($8.00)

OMG. This is heavenly! Although the strawberries weren't sweet, the light cream complimented the taste. This is one of the best Strawberry Shortcake I've had!

They have a wide range of breakfast menu and I can't wait to try them all!
